Ok I'm done! This was really a much better read than I thought it would be. Quite funny and interesting. He does go off on his tangents though...especially about evolution and ecological issues...hey, I get it...we've ruined the earth...the earth that all of a sudden appeared...then we came crawling out of the puddle of mud. I really didn't need that shoved down my throat again and again...but other than that, it was a good read. It made me want to hike the AT myself and I hate camping, being uncomfortable in any way and any form of exercise, so if it can inspire me, it can inspire anyone.
I think the best part of the book was his hiking partner, Katz. What a riot! Many times I was laying in bed laughing out loud from some of the things this guy said.
I'd like to read some of his other books, but I've heard they aren't as good, but some day I'll pick up another one to see for myself.

I'm glad you liked it. When I first read it in 1998, the ecology stuff was all new to me. The fires still burning in West Virginia (I think I have the right state) freaked me out. And, to know they are still burning today...
