Jane Austen Challenge

This is my own personal challenge. Materpiece Theatre is showing all of the Jane Austen movies beginning tonight at 9PM (Eastern time)

I'm challenging myself to read all the books as the movies are shown. I'm trying to read them before, but I may run over a bit. Here are the titles and dates the movies will be played.

1. Persuasion, Jan. 13 - 9pm (Done)

2. Northanger Abbey, Jan. 20 - 9pm (Done)

3. Mansfield Park, Jan. 27 - 9pm

4. Miss Austen Regrets, Feb. 3 - 9pm(show about her life...yay, gives me extra time!)

5. Pride and Prejudice, Feb. 10-24 at 9pm

6. Emma, March 23 - 9pm

7. Sense and Sensibility, March 30-April 6, 9pm (Done)

The only Austen I've read before is Persuasion, about 2 years ago and I'm rereading it right now to get ready for tonight. I don't think I'll finish the book by this evening, but I'm giving it my best shot.

I had to order the next two books from Amazon, as they're the only 2 I don't have, so I won't get Northanger Abbey until Wednesday, so I better read it quickly!

So...I'm going to be generous with myself and say that all the books need to be read in order and completed by April 30th.

Anyone want to join me?

Good luck with your challenge! I'm trying to do the same, and also reading books "about" Jane Austen as well. Just started a bio by Claire Tomalin.

I'm nearly done with Northanger Abbey. It's probably the most broadly satirical of the novels, and I've laughed out loud more than once. Looking forward to seeing the adaptation tomorrow evening.
