I did it!

I finished a challenge! Whoo-hoo! The Southern Reading Challenge. I finished GWTW last night and it was wonderful! I loved this book, even though it took me quite a while to read. It made me cry a few times toward the end and being a huge fan of the movie, I really enjoyed going deeper with the book. You get to really know the characters more, especially Scarlett.
I was heartbroken at the end, wanting Rhett to stay and say he still loved her. I must believe that he comes back eventually. If I know Scarlett, she'll get her man.

Rating: 5/5

Yes, another challenge

This one goes from September 1 to December 1
I plan on three of the following:
The Basketball Diaries by Jim Carroll
Cheaper by the Dozen by Frank Gilbreth
A River Runs Through It by Norman MacLean
Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery

Aha...finished one! A Walk in the Woods

Ok I'm done! This was really a much better read than I thought it would be. Quite funny and interesting. He does go off on his tangents though...especially about evolution and ecological issues...hey, I get it...we've ruined the earth...the earth that all of a sudden appeared...then we came crawling out of the puddle of mud. I really didn't need that shoved down my throat again and again...but other than that, it was a good read. It made me want to hike the AT myself and I hate camping, being uncomfortable in any way and any form of exercise, so if it can inspire me, it can inspire anyone.

I think the best part of the book was his hiking partner, Katz. What a riot! Many times I was laying in bed laughing out loud from some of the things this guy said.

I'd like to read some of his other books, but I've heard they aren't as good, but some day I'll pick up another one to see for myself.

Yes, I am reading...

just not finishing anything.
LOL
I'm still reading Gone With the Wind...getting closer to the end. I'm also reading another selection for the Non-Fiction Five...A Walk in the Woods, it's much better than I had expected.
Hmmm, what else? Well a lot of homeschool stuff, since the school year is starting again, oh and I had started Sons by Pearl S. Buck, but haven't touched it in two weeks.
Oh and I started Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult.

So, plenty of reading, just nothing getting finished...yet.

I am a book challenge failure

Well, looking at my sidebar, I can see I'm a book challenge failure. Not only have I not completed ANY of my book challenges, I totally dropped out of one...the Classics Challenge.
I haven't kept up with posting about the books I have read on the challenge blogs (if there is one...I know two of my challenges have blogs and I've stuck about posting there)
I thought I was almost done with the Southern Challenge, but I see I also have to read Cold Sassy Tree. I'm almost half way done with GWTW, so maybe, just maybe I can finish this challenge, but the others, I'm sorry...I took on too much and I can't finish. I have a feeling this won't stop me from joining challenges, because I just cannot resist a good book challenge. Now I just have to figure out how to finish them.

My Current Reads

I've read some very light, Chick-lit books lately, nothing much to write about.
Now I have these two chunksters sitting on my bedside table, both were started and set aside for other "quick" reads. So, I'm vowing to not pick up any other book until these two are done. They are Dragonfly in Amber by Gabaldon and Gone With the Wind for my Southern Challenge. As a matter of fact it is my last book for the Southern Challenge. Will I finish it before August ends??
It has been slow going for me, not because it isn't interesting, but because the print is small and I need to concentrate and you try doing that with four children running around. At night I'm so tired I can only squeeze in a chapter or so.
Ok I'm off to look at book blogs to see what others have been reading.
